Our best advice is to place it somewhere near the corner (minimum 1 metre from any obstruction) of a wall facing a 5x5m area. So, if you place the base station in an out-of-the-way or tightly confined area, it may not work as well. You need to understand that Neato thinks in 5x5m squares and it tries to clean that before moving onto the next ‘square’. Not tested but it also integrates with IFTTT, Samsung SmartThings and Facebook chatbot. It can integrate with an Apple Watch or Google Wear OS watch. It also has an Alexa skill and a Siri shortcut. “OK, Google, Ask Mr Neato to clean the house” (or room, etc.) or go home. If you use a Wi-Fi extender to cover Wi-Fi blackspots make sure it has seamless roaming (single SSID) or the robovac will lose the signal.ĭuring setup, you can link to Google Assistant (tested) and give it a name. If you experience Wi-Fi dropouts, it is due to poor router signal strength – not Neato. It is best to select 2.4Ghz as that signal can reach up to 30-meters diameter from your router – less distance if going through walls, cupboards, windows, doors or floors.ĥGhz signal covers a 10-metre diameter. You have a choice of 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz Wi-Fi. However, you do not need the app to do a clean.

Setup – EXCEEDĭownload the Neato app for Android or iOS. I particularly like the integrated carry handle and the large drive wheels – let’s see how they perform on door sills and rugs. LIDAR is extremely accurate – it rotates about 300 times a minute for +/-15mm accuracy and can map from 120mm out to 3.5-metres.Īdd front and side bumpers to help avoid newly placed furniture. It does not rely on ceiling or floor mapping as some robovacs do. LIDAR is a 2D laser that collects SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping) data. It uses a 360° LDS (laser distance sensor) radar scanner. We note that in most cases grey marketers do not offer ACL warranties and you have to pay return freight, often to Hong Kong or China. Spare parts are usually counterfeit – even if marked ‘genuine’. They do not carry Australian Consumer Law warranty from Neato Australia. These items vacuums are invariably ‘refurbs’. They operate as merchants via Amazon, eBay and Kogan/DickSmith. Like most premium products, Neato attracts its share of dodgy grey market and parallel importers. Mr Neato has an OCD condition when it comes to cleaning. No getting stuck corners, hiding under beds, stuck on high door sills, getting confused under coffee tables. An hour later, he had finished and had a laser map (one of the more accurate I have seen) to prove it. The app also lets you control everything via smart assistants like Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa or even using your Apple Watch.Mr Neato came out of the box, we charged, connected to Wi-Fi, and let him loose. You can select certain zones to cover, so you might set the bot to vacuum under the dining table at a time each night so you go to bed crumb free, for example. The No-Go marking of areas is also helpful but this works the other way too.

This means you can let the bot go, in Turbo, Eco or even Extra Care safe navigation modes, or go Manual and drive the bot yourself. The app is great as it blends totally manual controls with complete autonomy. All that means you don't have to move things when you go out and yet won't have to worry about the vacuum getting stuck.

This is great for protecting the dog's bed or a tassel rug but also ideal for cabled areas under desks. That means you can literally mark out areas by drawing lines on the map and the vac won't go there. What we really like is the ability to work with those maps. As a result you don't get knocks and crashes and maximise that already long battery life. This means it can then clean areas using the smartest, aka most efficient, route. While the Neato Botvac D7 Connected uses lasers to navigate obstacles, it also builds a map as it goes. (Image credit: Neato) Neato Botvac D7 Connected: Smart skills
